Italian term

positività virale

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) dialysis patient
Hi,
Could somebody please confirm that "positività virale" is equivalent to "positive viral load"?
Unfortunately I don't have any context here. It just appears on a medical file of a dialysis patient.
Thanks

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): ARS54

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Lirka Apr 11, 2011:
virus load It is usually not specified whether the virus load is positive or negative bur rather whether it is high or low (quantitative). So it's not synonymous!
Suzanne Smart (X) (asker) Apr 11, 2011:
no info about any virus! Hi SJLD, unfortunately this is all it gives. The rest of it is basically a check list to assess how well the patient copes with their dialysis treatment. There is no mention of any virus anywhere else.
SJLD Apr 11, 2011:
@Suzanne Does it mention what type of virus? As Helen says, in English "virus-positive" would be the most idiomatic expression - as in "hepatitis B virus positive" or "positive for xxx virus"
Suzanne Smart (X) (asker) Apr 11, 2011:
Apologies - wrong pair! So sorry, I accidentally posted this in FR-EN instead of IT-EN! I see it has been moved now.
Helen Genevier Apr 11, 2011:
positivité virale My first thought is that it should have said positivité. I understand it as virus-positive but that would only make sense if there is some suggestion of which virus they mean

viral positivity

This term is used but perhaps not the most common.

It obviates the need for having to specify how the virus is detected - immuno, PCR etc.

Risposta:
