Japanese term

執務職

Japanese to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
This is in a contract talking about overtime pay. It says the overtime shall only be paid to 執務職.

Discussion

humbird Apr 9, 2011:
Yeah, quite tricky is the word. But don't be deceived. 執務 seems to have closer association to "administrative" position, but alas, that's not the case here.
casey (asker) Apr 9, 2011:
Or perhaps "non-salaried employees"...
I'm just wondering why they're using 執務職.
casey (asker) Apr 9, 2011:
I guess it's just "regular employees," since overtime would not be paid to those in management positions. (Even though the contract does not specifically state this, I am assuming this is the case.)

例えば工場の生産ラインでシフト勤務している労働者には、残業は基本的に発生しませんが、これらの労働者を管理する職種(管理職/事務職)は、シフトで働いている訳ではないので残業が発生することがあり得ます。

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I never did find a definitive answer. I left a note for the client and gave them several options depending on what was meant specifically. They did not request clarification, so I'm assuming they found a suitable translation from the options I provided. Anyway, I am selecting cinefil's answer, because of peer agreement. Thanks, everyone, for your input. "

This is my best guess for your question without full contexts. See: http://www.google.co.th/search?hl=en&q="work position"&aq=f&...

Those working regular hours (9 AM - 5 or 6 PM)

It may mean those employees who are not supposed to work night shifts if there are both those who work regular day hours and those who work shifts.

Engineering and/or technical staff

I think the company in question is an engineering or manufacturing company.
See this site, where this position is clearly set aside from other clerical positions.

To me it makes more sense that when economy is bad such company pays overtime works only to those in the areas that directly affect productions, thus money into their coffer.
