In an interview, a guy is talking about how he got his nickname - Nain de Jardin Racing. He says ça me vient des grands steak qui peuplent les paddocks moto et qui ne me voyaient que de dos.

Can anyone help me make sense of this?

just a hunch without further context I would say: the big hunks, the beefy types or something like that; seeing that he is of a small stature, but leaves everyone in the dust , so-to-speak ; maybe he has to prove something

Ah, yes, that figures. And "grands steak" could mean "tall guys" (though this may be completely off track):

I would think "qui ne me voyaient que de dos" is a bit of boasting that he was always the leader/winner. They were eating his dust, as it were.

The asker hasn't provided much context, but this guy appears to be a snow scooter rider (which is like a skateboard, but with handlebars). I think he may be very short, but I'm not sure. I don't understand the significance of "qui ne me voyaient que de dos".

agree that "beefcakes" ="hunks"sound like they belong in centrefold.
"Meatheads" can be guys who work out, gym- obsessed, which I don't imagine is the case here. Think these are just like hulks, beefy and thick! It would be nice to have a bit more context though!!

assuming the "nain" really is small. Soimetimes big guys are called "Tiny"! But, I think the interpretation of le dos...is correct as jJoan suggests "eat my dust"

Just another possibility on the same lines. Beefcake sounds a little centerfoldy to me (if that's a word). "Qui ne me voyaient que de dos" could be something like "only eat my dust"

It's true, there is a connotation of "not too bright" but I think when describing your same sex competition, it is a better choice than connoting "kinda sexy". On the other hand, a more neutral choice like "burly guys" might be the best of all.

big lumps

I've heard this term a few times in football-related conversations. Usually refers to a big, bulky target man with no pace and a rubbish first touch (Adebayo Akinfenwa instantly springs to mind for some reason).

In English I'm fairly sure we'd say 'a big lump of a striker'. I think it works in a racing context too - 'the big lumps who used to hang around in the paddock'. Think big hairy biker types.
