Portuguese term

nao condiz com a realidade dos fatos

Portuguese to English Other Other complaint letter
This is a complaint letter disputing the cancellation of a contract:

Somente diziam que nao tinha como cancelar mais o que nao condiz com a realidade dos fatos.

To give more context the client is saying that he couldn't get a clear response from the company on whether or not the cancellation had taken place.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for getting back to me. Nick I like your suggestion - it couldn't be further from the truth. If you could post it as an answer I'll select it. Thanks all!

!!! Boilerplate ...which couldn't be further from the truth....
Martin Riordan Feb 1, 2011:
I think it captures the meaning well.
Mark Robertson Feb 1, 2011:
Good option
Sarah Webb (asker) Feb 1, 2011:
Thanks for all your helpful suggestions, I think I now understand what he is trying to say. Would you agree with my full translation of the sentence: "All they would say is that I was no longer able to cancel, which is in fact incorrect"? This is a little less wordy but the letter is quite formal so perhaps this is a more concise way of putting it. Please let me know what you think.

It doesn't tally with the facts / the facts don't add up

It (what the company said) doesn't tally or add up with regard to the facts he has at his disposal.

Or the facts don't match up.

"I simply have no way to cancel because the facts don't tally/ match/ add up."
In other words, the true facts are yet to be established.

does not correspond to the facts

As is said in polite conversation, it was a "terminological inexactitude".
