Arm counts

English to Dutch Medical Medical: Instruments Imaging
Context is a drop-down list for imaging: Gated, First pass, Attenuation correction, Orbit, Number of stops, Time per stop, Arm counts, Image quality, and artifact.

Discussion

Barend van Zadelhoff Jan 14, 2011:
voorstel Omdat men het over 'counts' heeft, ligt het voor de hand te veronderstellen dat men het heeft over becquerels: The becquerel (symbol Bq) is the SI derived unit of radioactivity. One Bq is defined as the activity of a quantity of radioactive material in which one nucleus decays per second. The Bq unit is therefore equivalent to s−1

.... in whom left forearm ischemia was induced by inflating a sphygmomanometer cuff to supra systolic pressure for 4.5 min. Later, dynamic acquisition (2 s frame/min) was initiated after the injection of technetium-99m methoxy-isobutyl isonitril into the dorsal pedal veins. Equivalent regions of interest were drawn on both arms to detect total activity counts during 1 min and the perfusion ratios (left arm/right arm) were calculated. The left arm counts (22,203.3+/-12,372.7) were significantly higher than the right arm counts (9,980.9+/-5,931.9)

Although we have used both types of detector successfully, this paper presents the results of a study to evaluate the feasibility of using a simple NaI(Tl) detector and an external arm-counting technique to measure continuously, or at least over a period of 5 hr daily, the clearance of Tc-99m DTPA in renal allotransplant patients.

Subsequently they had their progress monitored by external forearm counting using a 2-in.NaI(Tl) detector with a sleeve collimator, linked to a timer/ scaler. Counts were collected for 10 sec, repeated twice and averaged, every 15 - 30 min, (or as daily patient management allowed) corrected for background, decay,
and the percentage of protein binding (8), and plotted on semi-logpaper.

Immediately following IV administration, Tl-201 is distributed in myocardium in proportion to regional perfusion. Because Tl-201 is a potassium analog, its distribution at later times (i.e., 1-3 hrs after administration) reflects myocardial membrane function and, thus, myocardial viability. Consequently, Tl-201 is retained by viable myocardium (either normal or ischemic), but is not retained by infracted myocardium.

The patient will undergo exercise or pharmacologic stress under the supervision of an Internal Medicine Resident, and Tl-201 thallous chloride is injected intravenously at peak exercise or at the time of peak pharmacologic effect. Where exercise is used as the form of stress, the patient should be encouraged to continue exercising for approximately 1 minute after the injection of the radiopharmaceutical. Imaging should be initiated < 5 minutes after the administration of the radiopharmaceutical.
All required information should be entered on the quality control form (e.g. patient height and weight, body habitus, brassiere size, arm counts).
