Oh Bill... Can't agree with you more!
Bill Harrison (X) Jan 11, 2011:
Virginia..... Thank you for that kind comment.
This is what happens when you have to cope with poorly composed source texts... OR lack of context!
Virginia Koolhaas Jan 11, 2011:
Eugenia.
Bill Harrison (X) Jan 11, 2011:
Maria. I think you are almost certainly correct. I suspect that it is really being used in the sense of a contraction of 'valores en posición de valores', or securities in securities position, or thus 'securities held' or 'securities position'. It still seems a very odd heading in financial statements. My guess is that may be a securities dealer or broker.

I would add that I see no difference in this sense from 'Posición en valores' which is a very common expression.
One sample out of many Just use "Ctr + F" to find the phrase "as is".

Maria.... I did say as a stand-alone term. You will find lots of Valores en Posicion larga, creciente or with some other qualification of the word position. Can you point to any where the term is used 'as is', and not qualified in any way, as this is the case with the question?
Not at all, Bill "Valores en posición" gets 5,100 Google hits from Spain, Mexico, and other countries :)
Bill Harrison (X) Jan 11, 2011:
Unusual term. The term 'posición en valores' is very common. I have never seen this term as a stand-alone. I am wondering whether a little more context is possible. I can't think of anything better that Maria's answer but something is nagging at me. Valores en posesion would be more intelligible. And what type of company is it?? Valores en posición larga/corta is also common.
