French term

induction de trafic

French to English Social Sciences Environment & Ecology Urban Renewal
This is a help document on energy efficient neighbourhoods (particularly relating to transport) This phrase comes up several times as one of the questions to ask at planning stage: Il étudie notamment les besoins en mobilité (quels besoins en offre ? quelle induction de trafic ?) or, L’induction de trafic pour les infrastructures existantes (voirie, TC) or, as part of a list offre et demande, induction de trafic ... etc. Does this have a standard translation? help would be welcome.

verb it

Turn it round so you can avoid the noun "induction" which has confusing resonances in English. The verb, on the other hand, is perfectly clear.

So you're looking at "how much traffic is induced", "... induced traffic ..." etc.

Those of us who whine about road improvements maintain that expanding roads to accomodate a projected increase in traffic is a self-fulfilling prophecy: if you build it, they will come. This is referred to in the literature as 'INDUCED TRAFFIC'.

induction de trafic = traffic induction. Not electrical
disagree B D Finch : Not correct English usage and your Chinese reference ("Intelligent Traffic Induction System") is not a good source for correct English usage.

induced traffic

As far as I know, this is pretty standard stuff for development projects, the idea being that if you improve a road and make the traffic flow smoother, you'll attract people away from other less convenient routes. It's also referred to as traffic induction... Try googling "highway projects induced traffic" or something like that...

P.S. Sorry if this explanation has already been given above. Haven't had time to read all the answers... Back to work...
