Spanish term

grupos excluyentes

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Clinical study on diabetes
This is an analytical study relating to a clinical trial. It concerns the various types of insulin and OAD used by diabetics. One of the table headings is: "HbA1c por grupos excluyentes", and I also have "glargina por grupos excluyentes". Does anybody have any idea what these "excluding/exclusive groups"??? are? Many thanks.

Hi Heather. I believe the "exclusive groups" in this case are the types of patients that receive the drug, not the drug groups itself. Diabetic patients are often classified into such groups depending on specific types of conditions as a means to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol. And they are commonly refered to as "exclusive groups".

Er..."themselves" (sorry, low blood-coffee levels!)
Note from asker:
Thanks, that was my only guess. I'm not sure quite how it applies but will research whether some of these drugs/insulins are mutually exclusive. Thanks!

excluding groups

The problem is the meaning of the word "por". We have to translate the whole sentence. "HbA1c por grupos excluyentes" should be HbA1c by excluding groups. Excluyente means leaving outside something or somebody and maybe it is more applicable here.
