English term

ointment box

English to Spanish Medical Medical: Instruments laboratory items
Hello, I am struggling to translate this term. I can't imagine what it really means, because translating it literally it would be "caja de ungüento" o "caja de pomada", but that doesn't have anything to do with a lab item.

The context is as follows: Tared, covered, all-metal ointment boxes, having a capacity of approximately 50 to 60 cm3, a minimum diameter of 38 mm (1.5 in.), and a maximum height of 23 mm (0.9 in.).

Thanks in advance.

Juan L Lozano (asker) Oct 27, 2010:
I am still as in the beginning.
Salloz Oct 27, 2010:
Veronica Garcia Oct 27, 2010:
it's weird though, that they used the term oinment box because they also have the petri dishes term, so make sure it's the same.
Veronica Garcia Oct 27, 2010:
haha no problem. Glad I could help
Juan L Lozano (asker) Oct 27, 2010:
That's it Veronica. In Spanish (Mexico) we would call it Caja de Petri. Thabks!!
Veronica Garcia Oct 27, 2010:
just like a petri dishes maybe
Veronica Garcia Oct 27, 2010:
Maybe it's just actually what you thought at first? An ointment box to deposit the substance or anything else?
Juan L Lozano (asker) Oct 27, 2010:
It is part of the equipment required to determine the percent solids of a substance. The other context I have is lab equipment used for this measurement (analytical balance, oven, filter paper, pipette, etc.) but that doesn't give any clue on this matter.
Veronica Garcia Oct 27, 2010:
Do you have any context or other terms so we can see what the text is more about? Because I agree with your first thought, at first sight.

Envase de ungüento

Or

tubo / tarro / pote / bote de pomada

considering the differences between "ungüento" and "pomada" and bearing in mind the dimensions and features of the box.

Have a look at page 33 of the first web reference and page 17 of the second.
