Merci. Vous avez raison ; pour ce type de document , il vaut mieux ne pas trop coller au texte source. Je crois que, dans tous les cas, on peut laisser tomber "open", qui n'apporte rien en français.

: 'open' doesn't mean 'à ciel ouvert' here, but rather 'dégagé' — and it's vital to keep it in, since it is specifically contrasting the stark, bare winter landscape with the lush, more 'congested' summer one.

I suggested to omit "open" because it's implied here : this winter landscape is bare and dreary (to my mind, "open" means dépouillé/dénudé here). As to "à ciel ouvert", it's not the best translation indeed...

: MosaÏque est parfait, mais je mettrais plutôt "mosaïque de gris" pour traduire "shades". Il me semble d'ailleurs qu'une mosaïque n'est généralement pas monochrome, comme l'indique votre exemple "à dominante brune".
