Trail commission is a hidden nasty. Averaging about 0.5% a year, it is a regular payment made to your adviser by a fund manager. It gives that adviser an incentive to encourage you to hold onto any fund you buy through them. Many in the industry see it as a fair and straightforward way to charge clients. But we disagree.
"It can be a fair way to remunerate advisers, provided they provide advice in return," says Justin Modray of Candidmoney.com.

Trail/trailing commission
http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/07/trailing_commissi...
Very simply, a trailing commission is money you pay an advisor each year that you own an investment. The purpose of the fee is to provide incentive for the advisor to review their customer's holdings and to provide advice. But when it comes down to it, it is essentially a reward for keeping you loyal to a particular fund.
Egyébként a befektetéskövető jutalék pontosabb.

"A függő ügynök a Takarékbankkal kötött megállapodás alapján a befektetési jegyek utáni kapott állományi jutalékból részesülhet"

Trailing commission
A commission paid annually to a sales agent for as long as a client's money remains in an account. Also called trailer fee.
http://invest.yourdictionary.com/trailing-commission
Trailing commission / Trailer Fee
A commission that the salesperson of a mutual fund receives each year an investor remains a shareholder. That is, the salesperson receives the first trailer fee when the investor first buys shares in the fund, and a new trailer fee each year thereafter. Critics of this practice point out that it can create a moral hazard that the salesperson will aggressively sell a fund because of his own financial incentive rather than because he believes it to be a good investment for the potential shareholder. Not all mutual funds pay their sales staff trailer fees.

A korábban javasoltnál általánosabb megfelelőként szerintem használható itt a "forgalomfüggő jutalék" kifejezés is.

A "trailing" jelentése a "trailing commission" kifejezésben
A Discussion részben leírtak folytatása ez, remélhetőeg ide kifér.
A lenti címen megtalálható cikk azon részeit emelem ki, ahol látható, hogy a jutalékokra vonatkozóan a "trailing" jelző az "upfront" ellentéte.
"The entry or initial (upfront) fees
Very few financial planners offer their customers a nil fee implementation service. Most invariably charge you to implement your financial plan via one of three methods: commission only; commission and a fee; or a fee-for-service charge. The most common method is commission only, and as mentioned, upfront commissions or brokerages have been as high as 8 per cent in days gone by.
Today, the average would appear to be as high as 2 per cent. But several planners contacted by Personal Investor suggest the maximum justifiable upfront commission would be half that (just 1 per cent plus GST, or 1.1 per cent). This fee should compensate the adviser for his or her time in discussions with you, formulating strategies, and also for the adviser's administrative overheads.
Also, investigate closely the <B>nil entry fee</B> managed funds that may be recommended by your adviser. They would likely contain either <B>a higher trailing commission</B> (see below) or overall management expense ratio (MER) designed to claw back the nil-entry fee. It pays to study the fine print of the prospectus.
Ongoing fees
Embedded in older-style retail managed funds is a provision for the financial adviser to be paid for his or her ongoing service to you, the customer. Even so-called mezzanine funds have some form of adviser trail commission. Also, most margin lenders, home equity loans and protected equity products <B>pay both an upfront and trailing commission</B> to advisers who sell such products. Always ask why your adviser recommends these products and how much (in dollars) they are being paid in trail commissions.
Broadly speaking, trail commissions are under market pressure and falling. The average cost is in the vicinity of 0.4 to 0.6 per cent of the total investment for most managed funds. Many fee-based financial planners will <B>rebate the trail commissions back to the investor</B> - however, they would most likely <B>charge a higher plan fee to compensate for this</B>. "

Examples of fees which investors often don’t understand are trailing fees and management expense ratios (MER). A trailing fee is taken by the adviser who sells you a product; he takes a part of your savings every year you’re in the fund, supposedly for monitoring the investment.

Most akkor melyik?
http://www.assetmag.com.au/financialplanners/article2.asp
http://www.managersinvest.com/glossary.html
"Dividend Yield
This percentage is calculated by dividing a company’s total dividends paid over the trailing 12 months by its current per-share price and multiplying by 100."
"Price/Earnings
Price/earnings (or P/E) ratio is a comparison of the cost of the company’s stock and its trailing 12-month earnings per share.
...
P/Es can also be artificially inflated if a company has very weak trailing earnings, and thus a very small number in this equation’s denominator."
Az összes referencia, amit megadtam a review, a look after, monitor kifejezéseket használja a definícióban. Magára a szolgáltatásra utal.
Trailing fees or "trailing commissions" are paid to advisers from investors' managed fund accounts. These payments cover the cost of ONGOING FINANCIAL SERVICE including INVESTMENT MONITORING. "
Az ongoing szolgáltatásért fizet, a követésért fizet, a trail erre vonatkozik. Pontosan ezért írja itt is, hogy "that allows them to spend time looking after their existing customers, rather than having to devote all their time to chasing new business."

It can be lucrative being an independent financial adviser. Tens of millions of pounds is paid to advisers every year from the money they LOOK AFTER ON BEHALF OF CLIENTS.
Trailing fees or "trailing commissions" are paid to advisers from investors' managed fund accounts. These payments cover the cost of ongoing financial service including investment monitoring."
Én erre utaltam, amikor a szerepek keveréséről írtam.
Részemről is lezártnak tartom a dolgot, legalábbis a kérdéses kifejezés tartalmi jelentését illetően.
Csupán annyit írtam, hogy brókerek és alapkezelők.
A brókereket nem én kevertem bele, hanem a referenciákban szerepel. Többek között itt is:

http://www.candidmoney.com/articles/article52.aspx
Why do advisers receive trail commission?
In theory trail commission provides financial advisers with an income that allows them to spend time looking after their existing customers, rather than having to devote all their time to chasing new business. For example, if they sell you a unit trust or pension it makes sense to review things at least once a year to ensure all is ok. In most cases trail commission should cover these costs.

Follow the trail towards a worthwhile rebate

Financial Times
Matthew Richards
It can be lucrative being an independent financial adviser. Tens of millions of pounds is paid to advisers every year from the money they LOOK AFTER ON BEHALF OF CLIENTS. These payments – paid by pension companies and fund managers in the form of trail commissions – are designed to compensate advisers for the ongoing advice they give their clients. So, if you have a £100,000 fund portfolio, £500 a year could be whizzing its way to your adviser to pay for this regular advice. If you’re happy with the advice, this is probably a fee worth paying.
A: Trailing fees and commissions are not well known or understood and can have a significant impact on your wealth creation. "Trailing commissions" are yearly commissions which are paid to the body that introduced you to your financial institutions, or that your nominate. Typically this is your broker, financial adviser or fund supermarket. These payments are made even where you have gone directly to the fund manager. Trailing commissions are unavoidable and where no introducer is recorded on your investments these payments are retained by the fund manager. These fees typically range between 0.2% and 1.1% per annum of the total value of your investments. These fees are paid every year for the life of your investment. Per Choice magazine - Trail commissions – October 2005 “Millions of dollars per year are paid by fund managers to financial planners and discount brokers in the form of ongoing commissions, known as trails or adviser service fees. These commissions are paid out of the money you invest. They’re supposedly for ongoing service but in many cases the planner doesn’t provide any ongoing investment review or advice”
http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/07/trailing_commissi...
Very simply, a trailing commission is money you pay an advisor each year that you own an investment. The purpose of the fee is to provide incentive for the advisor to review their customer's holdings and to provide advice. But when it comes down to it, it is essentially a reward for keeping you loyal to a particular fund.
Tehát a lényege: legyen az alapkezelő vagy pénzügyi tanácsadó lojális ahhoz a bizonyos alaphoz: figyelje, kövesse a befektetést. Folyamatos szolgáltatást nyújtson a befektetéssel kapcsolatosan. Ongoing commission-ként is hívják.
http://www.yourshare.com.au/FAQ.aspx
http://www.barclayswealth.com/glossary/glossary-t.htm
When a broker invests in a FUND FOR YOU, they may receive remuneration from the fund manager based on YOUR initial INVESTMENT. They may also receive further remuneration each year thereafter, for as long as you continue to hold the fund investment with them. These payments are known as trail commission. It may also be referred to as continuing commission. It will usually be a percentage of the fund’s annual management charge.
I mentioned the trailing stop order because I drew a parallel between the names of the 2 terms. Basically in both terms somebody is monitoring the investment/positions.
