German term

sklerosiert

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Herzkatheterbefund.

"Linke Koronararterie:

Hauptstamm: Sklerosiert."

Now, what's the equivalent here? Sclerosis, stenosis or calcification? Each word means something else, but I somehow cannot find a match for the German 'sklerosiert' [ b/c I am not sure of the German word]. Given the context, 'stenosis' would fit best, but does it actually reflect the German sklerosiert?

MD colleagues and other experts cordially invited to offer insights :)

Thanks!

sclerosed / sclerotic

Sclerosis is hardening and refers in this case to what has happened to the vessel wall. Stenosis is narrowing, and strictly speaking applies to the vascular lumen rather than the vessel wall, and may occur with or without calcification. Stick with a literal translation of what is there in this instance.

atherosclerotic/hardened

Safe, Quick Technique For Eliminating Reblockage Of Arteries Following Angioplasty - An easily implementable technique to avoid reblockage of arteries that have been cleared through angioplasty and stent insertion has been developed by researchers. Angioplasty is the 'gold-standard' treatment for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), which is the result of abrupt interruption in blood supply to part of the beating heart, usually due to plaque-rupture in an atherosclerotic (hardened) coronary artery...

It is most commonly equated with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, but coronary disease can be due to other causes, such as coronary vasospasm.[2] It is possible for the stenosis to be caused by the spasm.

Heart attack would occur when a hardened coronary artery is blocked by a blood clot.

The spasm often occurs in coronary arteries that have not become hardened due to plaque buildup (atherosclerosis). However, it also can occur in arteries with plaque buildup.

In developed countries, coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women. Coronary artery disease, specifically coronary atherosclerosis literally “hardening of the arteries,” which involves fatty deposits in the artery walls and may progress to narrowing and even blockage of blood flow in the artery), occurs in about 5 to 9% (depending on sex and race) of people aged 20 and older.
