students of landscape design or of landscape architecture
A "landscaper" in my experience (and this would be in American English) is someone who works on small-scale projects, on a highly local level. In general, regular folks in the suburbs, for example, hire landscapers for their yards and gardens, or small towns hire them for local projects. Formal post-grad. training is not required to become a landscaper; knowledge is generally passed on in an apprenticeship-type situtation or gained through pre-grad training.
Landscape architects and landscape designers are hired for prestigious projects, are highly trained (post-graduation education in architecture/landscape design), in a highly competitive field. Corporations, cities, institutions, the rich and famous, etc. hire landscape designers and landscape architects.
Landscape designers/architects design city parks. Landscapers (in American English) design backyards.
You'll notice that the American landscaping students referred to in Antonio's references are studying at a local career center, a community college, and high school students. I point this out to show the difference between the two terms.
The text you are working on seems to be about students at the Italian college level or beyond. This would be students of landscape design/landscape architecture (the Italian laurea is exceedingly far more specialized than the anglo university degree and it corresponds to post-grad level of training.)
[The difference between landscape architects and landscape designers varies according to the speaker, but from one well-adhered to viewpoint, the difference is in name, only: the word architect tends to get more respect in certain professional circles, the word designer, less.]

Italy:
AIAPP (Italian Association of Landscape Architecture)is the Italian association of professional landscape architects formed in 1950 and is a member of EFLA and IFLA. AIAPP is in the process of contesting this new law which has given the Architects’ Association the new title of Architects, Landscape Architects, Planners and Conservationists whether or not they have had any training or experience in any of these fields other than Architecture. At the same time the Existence of AIAPP has been totally ignored in spite of its international recognition [2] In Italy there are several different professions involved in landscape architecture :
* Architetti (Architects)
* Paesaggisti (Landscape designs)
* Dottori Agronomi Paesaggisti e Dottori Forestali Paesaggisti (Doctor landscape agronomists and Doctor landscape foresters)
* Periti Agrari e Periti Agrari Laureati (Agrarian Experts and Graduated Agrarian experts)"

There is no overtranslation. The sources I cite above state that in the field of landscape architecture in Italy, landscape designers and landscape architects are called paesaggisti.
