дуализм "я отплачу" -- имеет два основных варианта : добром за добро и злом за зло. Есть еще христианский вариант "добром за зло" и жлобский "злом за добро"...

м-да... Век живи-век учись! Каюсь! Я и не подозревала о существовании еще одного значения этого выражения. Всегда считала, что подразумевается что-то вроде "Я умею быть благодарным", "Будьте уверены, что я обязательно вас отблагодарю". А ведь оно и правда может звучать как угроза! Ребята, меня интересует более "мирное" значение. Спасибо большое!

agree Jack Doughty : The trouble with that is, for the englishworks definition, the first is an expression of gratitude and the others are all hostile, promising revenge for some injury. Since there is no context, who knows which?
