Es ist KEINE VOllmacht. Was genau ist in einem "letter of consent" enthalten, oder bezeichnet man eine solche Erlaubnis mit "permit" und "we grant permission to"

"Authorisation" wäre eher Vollmacht, passt m.E. hier nicht. Ich sehe das als "Einwilligung", wofür "consent" passt. (Du sprichst ja selbst vom "Letter of Consent".)

Letter of Consent (must be notarized!!)
"Letter of Consent" should be sufficient for these circumstances, BUT it must be notarized! There are certain legalities necessary when taking someone elseÕs child to a foreign country. A "Power of Attorney" (Vollmacht) isnÕt necessary, but the NOTARIZED "Letter of Consent" would give the Schweigereltern the power to act "in loco parentis" if there should be some kind of emergency, or if the child should need medical treatment.

Permission is given for or there is no objection to the parents-in-law taking the daughter along with them to the USA.
Having said that, I can't imagine a situation where such a certificate is necessary. In our place (in India), a married daughter is no longer under the control of the parents. Unless we are dealing here with the would-be inlaws.
