Dutch term

Warme keuken

A 'warme keuken' is required in a factory where pre-prepared meals are made.

Discussion

André Linsen Apr 7, 2010:
If I am not mistaken, the laws on Food Safety in Belgium say that (for mass cooking, as in hospitals, schools, ...) cold kitchen and hot kitchen must be separated (separate food chains). This means that you can't prepare salads in the same kitchen you cook meat (e.g.).
In this case I'd say that "warme keuken" stands for cooking installation (furnace, stove, oven, steamer, ...).

hot kitchen

It's actually hot kitchen/cold kitchen:

The cleaning of your work area, and the maintaining of it's hygienic state is much more critical here than in the areas of the hot kitchen, for the following reasons:
Because a number of the products utilized here are not cooked, the potential of bacterial contamination is much higher. Because the bacterias have not been killed by the application of heat, therefore the foods have not been sterilized

hot/warm meals

In this context: hot/warm meals need to be prepared in a seperate kitchen. Most likely due to hygienic reasons.

Usually, 'warme keuken' is referring to a restaurnat/bar/etc, serving hot/warm dishes.

Peer comment(s):

agree MoiraB : just 'hot meals'. Who wants a warm meal? And sepArate. Alternatively, hot-meal kitchen gets some hits.

thanks, Moira, wasn't sure which of the two (hot or warm) is more appropriate, but yes, I'd prefer a 'hot' meal as well :)
disagree philgoddard : It's not the meals, it's the place where they're cooked.

I know, they need to be prepared in a seperate kitchen, that's what I wrote, but Lianne's option is far better anyway
