French term

Informatique et Libertés

French to English Law/Patents Internet, e-Commerce Website
This is in reference to the CNIL law:

"La loi "Informatique et Libertés" du 6 janvier 1978 modifiée par la loi du 6 août 2004 encadre la mise en oeuvre des fichiers ou des traitements de données à caractère personnel qu’ils soient automatisés ou manuels.
Les responsables de ces fichiers ou traitements ont des obligations."

If anyone knows if there is an official or semi-offical translation that would be great.

Travelin Ann Feb 23, 2010:
I apologize in advance for the caps, from the title page of the English version of the law:
ACT N°78-17 OF 6 JANUARY 1978 ON DATA PROCESSING, DATA
FILES AND INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I was most confused about the use of "Libertés," so this and Ann's discussion entry were the most helpful. The CNIL calls itself the Data Protection Authority in its English translation, but it's the law I was after here. So thanks."
