Norwegian term

kompetansebedrift

Norwegian to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
"... Norges ledende kompetansebedrifter..."
I presume these are specialist skills companies but can't think of what they would be called in English. Grateful for any help. Thanks.

Discussion

David Siebert Feb 3, 2010:
sounds sensible 'professional services company' or perhaps 'specialist services company' sounds pretty good to me.
Mark Andrew Thompson (asker) Feb 3, 2010:
Thanks for the comments. No, they're not named, unfortunately, but I am erring towards 'professional service companies' or something along those lines.
David Siebert Feb 3, 2010:
A clue? Are the companies named? Therein may lie a clue to what we would call them. This is a package name that is often used, and as you say usually refers to companies providing services rather than manufacturing products
jeffrey engberg Feb 3, 2010:
professional services? maybe a company that provides professional services based mostly on human knowledge and human resource skills, versus actually sellable objects, manufacturing or basic services?

specialist

Do a search with: " leading specialists in *" or "leading specialists in IT *". Or "leading providers of specialist services within/in *" if you know it's a service.
