Italian term

parterre de roi

Italian to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
For showjumping competition
Un vero e proprio ”parterre de roi” quello che ha preso parte all’unica tappa italiana della Rolex FEI World Cup™, ben 9 dei primi 13 cavalieri del ranking mondiale, tra cui le tre medaglie individuali europee 2009 Kevin Staut – gold, Carsten Otto Nagel (GER) – silver and Albert Zoer (NED) – bronze
I guess this is originally a French expression but have no idea how you would say this

display fit for a king

It is often also called a "parterre de rois" in the plural, and refers to the royal platform on which kings sat to watch spectacles. Today we still sometimes use the term parterre to refer to seating sections in a symphony hall, for example.

Here is a link referring to it as a "audience of kings":

You could also leave it as is, and provide an explanation in brackets.

I have a hunch that the expression, like so many importations into Italian, is slightly misused, or reinterpreted to mean something different from the original French, which refers to the audience, not the spectacle.

parade of VIPs

I don't think there's a suitable English equivalent for the French ”parterre de roi", which is quite frequently used in Italian.

Top ranking participants

The expression in sports deals with the excellence of the sportsmen (and their horses in this case). (9 of the first 13 in the world ranking).

Or a cluster of top ranking participants.

It is, after all, something akin to a "horse show."
