missing sentence
Mystery sentence sounds a bit strange to my ears. I would consider missing sentence - the one that particpants have to 'find' and (presumably) fill in.

: 'Mystery word/phrase/number' is the standard expression. In what sense has the sentence gone 'missing'? // It appears to be a stand-alone sentence. 'Missing' works for words represented by a gap in an otherwise fully formed sentence.

missing in the sense that it is absent, that it needs to found (and perhaps filled in) in the same way as one fills in the missing gaps of a sentence or the missing part of a puzzle
