Russian term
слединение
Russian to English
Other
Military / Defense
military organization
This is the beginning of the text of a Warsaw Pact telegram to the Polish General Staff after the WP invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968:
Слединения и части второй армии Войска Польского...с честью выполнили задачу... (to make Czechoslovakia safe for Communism for another 21 years)
I can only find two hits on this word in Google.ru. (so maybe it's a valid word?)
Объединения is wrong for this context since an army IS an объединение. I presume it should be Соединения but that's a multi-letter garble in otherwise clean text.
Can this word nevertheless be valid?

A typo.

I think a repetitive typo might result from:
1) AutoCorrect command in MS Word (with invalid input string)
2) OCR recognition mistakes (Adobe Acrobat)
3) A typo in any translation memory that might have been used (if the strings are similar).
Anyway, there is definitely no such term as "слединение".
Any matches that Google might find are typos - the keys "О" and "Л" are very close on the keyboard.

: not sure about "operational", though

Thanks. Multitran gives 4 variants for this phrase - so I cannot be sure, too.

: Definitely "соединение." I couldn't begin to count how many times I've seen "соединения и части" paired like that. As to the translation . . . there's no direct English equivalent. It's all relative.

Comment: "Thanks for confirming this, Roman.
BTW, the standard Defense Department translation for соединение is formation and for объединение it's "large formation""
