French term

tonnelet de foie de canard

French to English Other Cooking / Culinary
Hi

There you have it: tonnelet de foie de canard.

I'm thinking it must have a round, barrel-like shape but would appreciate confirmation and suggestions for translating!

Many thanks.

French Foodie Oct 6, 2009:
shape Hi Sandra, I've other examples of tonnelet for starters made with crabe et agrumes, or carottes et tarama, for example, so I think your idea of shape makes sense. Since "barrel of" doesn't sound appetising (except for a barrel of laughs ;-), how about just leaving it in French "tonnelet of..."? Especially since this is a posh restaurant.
Sandra Petch (asker) Oct 6, 2009:
My oh my I have some blurb about the restaurant which has no bearing on the question and, at the end, a list of some of the dishes served. This is one item in that list.
Melissa McMahon Oct 6, 2009:
Context, take II... So, is it actually on a menu? Or another kind of document?
Sandra Petch (asker) Oct 6, 2009:
The only context I can give you is that this is for a three-star restaurant so definitely no catering-size barrels there ;-)
Colin Morley (X) Oct 6, 2009:
tonnelet seems to be a large can or a barrel - could this perhaps be a catering-size can of foie de canard? Context would be useful
Sandra Petch (asker) Oct 6, 2009:
Context Hi - there is no context, this is just one of a list of dishes. No explanation, no comments, just a list.
Sarah Bessioud Oct 6, 2009:
Context Hello Sandra, would it be possible to provide a little more context please? TIA

I think that is the same shape.
