accounts balancing

Opprydding seems to suggest there was a mess there in the 1st place. Normally, reconciliation would be a nice, odourless term for this term, but reconciliation seems to fit better with the next one, avstemming. So maybe something like accounts balancing, reconciliation and year-end procedures?

In the matter of singular or plural, methinks there is oftentimes more than just the single account involved.

Still on the plural hobbyhorse, one difference is that you CAN pick a single stamp, or a single berry...:-)
Note from asker:
I think you're right, Per, though "account balancing" (singular form) seems to be the more accepted form.
I don't mean to make a meal out of this point about singular/plural, but your argument doesn't hold in English - what about "berry picking", or "stamp collecting"... ;-)
ooohhh.. what are you doing up so bright and early this morning anyway? Agree you have a point there. But as you will see if you compare them in similar searches, there is not much difference between them. I think it's a case of the eye that sees. Truce?
Peer comment(s):

agree lingo_montreal : Now that I understand the context a bit better, Per is probably right -- a much gentler and dignified term than my previous suggestion. P.S. in N. America we commonly say "balancing the books".

Account(s) clean-up/ cleaning up the books

Just some general suggestions. These are terms used lately in Montreal in connection with several recent contract and money scandals at our City Hall, although these could equally be applied to any company whose books are in a sorry state and require a bookkeeper or certified accountant to "clean up the mess"!
Note from asker:
He, he, nice try, lingo, but I'm sure this is not the case in my context, which is in preparation for a tender...!! I'm beginning to lean towards "closing of financial accounts"...

balancing accounts

In contrast to accounts balancing, which sounds like some kind of financial circus act for Cayman Islands' accountants, I think we would we would say "She has experience with balancing accounts..."
