Dutch term

binnen de grenzen

Dutch to English Social Sciences Psychology ziekteverzuim
Er dienen duidelijk en helder grenzen gesteld te worden. Bij veeleisend helpen gaat het erom duidelijk grenzen te stellen en daarnaast iemand willen helpen binnen die grenzen te blijven.
Uit een webpagina van een bedrijf dat zich bezighoudt met verzuimmanagement.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): writeaway

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

within the limits

'Limits' fits for 'grenzen' in all instances in the passage you quote, whereas 'thresholds' or ''boundaries' would not be so comfortable.

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : I'd go with limits in this case because it doesn't really have anything to do with psychological boundaries.

agree Ron Willems : yes, because it has to do with (the amount of) sickness absence (see context below Lianne's answer)

(stay) within boundaries

Boundaries or (adhere to) standards.

"Veeleisend helpen" is een onduidelijke term hier... maar "the purpose is to set clear boundaries (or standards) and helping someone stay within those boundaries or adhere to these standards.

More context would help, because there are quite some different approaches in absence management that would set the tone one way or another (more medical vs more psychological, for example).

Bruce's "limits" would be another option, that I see more fit for financial/insurance context.

Note from asker:
This is from a list of single words the client wanted me to translate. I refused, because it is impossible to decide on the correct translation without context. She has now added an explanation to each word. With this sentence she explains the term "frequent verzuim" (which I translated as "frequent sickness absence").
Het is een door de opdrachtgever verzonnen zin, ter illustratie van de term "grenzen stellen". Bedoeld wordt hier grenzen vaststellen in een confronterend gesprek tussen HRM-manager en werknemer. De werknemer wordt dan geconfronteerd met zijn verzuimgedrag, en de consequenties daarvan voor het bedrijf en de collega's. Uiteindelijk moeten deze gesprekken resulteren in (verzuim)gedragsverandering.
