anodes for protection against electrolysis I agree with Andres as to the term. "Tæreanoder" would be "sacrificial anode". These are very common on boats in both salt and fresh water. They are sacrificial because it is expected that they will have to be replaced on a regular basis. They don't really corrode, but exchange electrons, preventing electrolysis in the vessel's metal parts, which can be the fastenings in a wooden vessel, the plating in a steel or aluminum vessel, and the underwater appendages, such as propellers, shafts, skegs, V-struts, rudders, or through hull fitting on any vessel. These anodes are also found in engines that are raw water cooled, and in heat exchangers that shed heat to raw water.
