This is in a sort of checklist of items that a company producing batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles is planning out over a 5 year period. The full phrase is: "V字設計検証ﾌﾟﾛｾｽ". The preceding line is "組込ｿﾌﾄ品質技術".
Obviously this is a design verification process (I thnk), but what about V字?

V字、L字、etc are often used to represent a certain shape.
I don't know what exactly is being designed here, but perhaps they need to check the angle of the V, or other aspects of the design, which happens to be shaped like a letter 'V'.

: Agree: Katakana characters are usually suffied by 字 eg arranging seating, but I guess ビー would not be as clear as "V" in this case

This is a working system in order to detect faults in an early stage. After a developement has be done, it must go to the verification/inspection and than it goes to the next level. and this system makes a kind of V-shape.
