French term

arracheuse de betteraves intégrale

French to English Tech/Engineering Agriculture
"Une intégrale est une arracheuse de betteraves avec une grosse trémie de 15 à 25 tonnes, selon le modèle, lui permettant de stocker et débarder elle-même les betteraves arrachées. Elle s’oppose aux automotrices de récolte traditionnelles, de moindre capacité, qui nécessitent des bennes extérieures tirées par des tracteurs (en général 2 ou 3), et donc aussi plus de personnel. En outre, une intégrale peut plus facilement rentrer dans des terres très humides et travailler jour et nuit."

A nice explanation, but I still cannot find the equivalent term in English! Thanks in advance for any help.

Discussion

Marco Solinas May 10, 2009:
beet combine harvester I get over 1000 hits for " beet combine harvester". Not a lot but some of prettey good quality, including patents
Héloïse Ki (X) (asker) May 10, 2009:
I possibly should have been a little more specific... My problem is with the qualifier 'intégrale'. There seem to be very few hits for 'integral harvester'/'integrated harvester' etc. Yet the French 'arracheuse intégrale' seems to get quite a lot, and to refer to something clear and specific.

Does your text

indicate what is "integral" about it? Is it SELF-PROPELLED as opposed to pulled by a tractor, or does it perform ancillary operations making it a BEET PULLER AND TOPPER or BEET PULLER AND CLEANER, etc.?

Note from asker:
Hi. The only information about what it does is in the quote above, which seems to indicate that it is 'integral' because it carries the beets as it goes along, rather than transfering them to a separate tank pulled by tractors. I would think it is self-propelled, not 100% sure about the rest...

integrated (or combined) beet harvester

It should work, I think
Peer comment(s):

agree Sheila Wilson : integrated or combined or all-in-one (Fr term is non-specific re sugarbeet vs beetroot)

neutral Gabrielle Leyden : just for info, Haensch & Haberkampf give "beet harvester" for "arracheuse-décolleteuse-chargeuse de betteraves" and "beet lifter-windrower" for "arracheuse-groupeuse" or "arracheuse-aligneuse de betteraves

Beet and beetroot are the same things. You're right about the sugar beet. However, in French, sugar beet is "betterave sucrière" so your disagree is unfair.
