This is the title of a family history folder, written in the 1950's, covering history back to the 17th century.
Is this an archaic spelling of "slægtsbog", or am I simply misreading the word ?
If the former, what would be an appropriately aged English term to translate it with ?

I've never heard of a "sleegtsbog", so it must be a typo. The correct translation of a "slægtsbog" - as you probably know - is genealogy.

the Danish word is close to the German "Geschlechtsbuch" for which I do not find a suitable English alternative. My above suggestion keeps in mind that you are looking back over several centuries. Hope this helps.

family history/genealogy
Slægt er family og bog er book. I USA bruges genealogy eller family history. Genealogy er også brugt for stamtavle.
