Comment: "Thanks Judith. On another journey into Google, I discovered another review of a book by a local author who is a friend. I emailed her and her reply was, "Registrerende i den her forbindelse ville jeg nok sige at det betyder nøgternt - altså ikke følelsesladet."
So "detached" fits the bill."

why not use the same term in English.

I really think this one requires a lot of rephrasing. The main element is "registrerende", in the sense of "listing, making a record of, taking notes on" etc. But "køligt" is important, too, so it might be necessary to include "detached" in order to put across the fact that the author doesn't display any direct empathy with her subject/subjects. My suggestion probably needs a subject noun for "recording", but I hope this can help you towards a solution.
