I would say, installation and setup are mostly the same, when configuration is done after installing anything.
So first you need to run setup to install the programm and then you need to configure it.
However, you cann install a hardware physically, but not setup it.
So mainly, you are right with installation: Programm oder Hardware installieren
Setup: Installieren eines Programms
Confiuguration: etwas konfigurieren, (Treiber, Einstellungen der Grafikkarte, TCP/IP-Einstellungen)
\"Konfiguration\" is done via software, I think.
If you do physical configuration, I would say \"Einstellungen vornehmen\"

Setup:
Individuelles Abstimmen von Hardware und/oder Software auf die Bedürfnisse des Nutzers.
Configuration:
wird oft exakt wie Setup benutzt, bezieht sich meiner Erfahrung nach aber meist nur auf Software.
Leider gibt es keine einheitliche Verwendung der Begriffe, jede Firma hat da ihre eigene Terminologie.
Im Gegensatz zu Jerzy sehe ich also eher "setup" und "configuration" als Synonyme.

Wenn man darüber nachdenkt, was diese Programme meist tun, hat Jerzy doch Recht. Im englischsprachigen Raum sind wohl doch eher Installation (eher Hardware) und Setup (eher Software) synonym.

: Steup und Konfiguration sind nicht synonym, z.B. bei Einrichten einer DFÜ-Verbindung, wo zuerst Hard-, Software installiert werden soll, ehe man mit der Konfiguration seines Zuganges anfängt.
