I think Adison's answer is quite correct, but i think to be more specific it should be more like:
Books is the 上账的账户表like statements that can be shown in financial record?
Record is 记账的账户 like the ledgers to record each transations?
Accounts is 分类帐户should be individually record, like expense account or ABC company.
I have not learn the Chinese accounting so I don't know the exact words, but I think that's the difference (I might have mix up books with record on second though)
