exorbitantly

大手 seems to insinuate 'excess' or 'costly':
Examples in other usages are: 大手大腳, which means to spend extravagantly;
and 窮大手, which means to spend extravagantly, although poor.

I would suggest exorbitant, because it ultimately ties in to the idea that it was "too much, and likely will be too costly"
