English term

takes inventory with a photograph

Joseph is scanning the enemy forest with binoculars.
Joseph is preparing his camouflage. Montage ends.
In makeshift camouflage, Joseph is moving slowly and
stealthily into unknown territory. We follow his progress
with the tension of a cat and mouse stalk.
Approaching the enemy forces, he ***takes inventory with a photograph*** from a distance. He sees no unusual or heightened manpower or activity, but he is puzzled when he discovers a Romanian uniform lying on a field chair outside a military tent.

Thank you in advance!
