hmmm - this word is often tricky...
This is for a business article about business process re-engineering.
"Alineamiento tecnológico, una ingeniería orientada a IT:
Dentro de los proyectos de ingeniería y reingeniería de procesos hay una tipología cuyo objetivo principal es lograr el óptimo alineamiento tecnológico de los procesos en la empresa."
Any (good) ideas, please?
Thanks

You could avoid using it. Something like: "Among the different process engineering and re-engineering projects there are those whose main objective is to achieve..."
Personally, I don't like using "typology" if I can avoid it, although I do realise it is used quite a lot in English texts nowadays!

Comment: "Thanks Tracy, that's great - I used it word for word...
I really didn't want to use "classification" here and "typology" didn't sit well in a business article."

Note from asker:
Hi Monica Thanks for the suggestion, but I already discarded that one -I don't think it fits the context... what other words might you use in Spanish, synonyms, in this context, please?? |

typology
I would stick with typology. For example, from an article on "business-process re-engineering" Pennings, J.M and J.A. Woiceshyn (1987): A typology of organizational control and its metaphors, Research in the Sociology of Organizations. Greenwich, CT: JAI Press, pp.73-104.

oops, I just saw that the third reference is a repeat of the first. But I stand by my choice--typology is a perfectly acceptable term if you are translating some sort of research study.

With all the respect due Neilmac, I've got to point out that typology has a very specific meaning and it isn't a syn. for type. From Merriam-Webster's:
A ***STUDY*** of or study based on types <the typology of the idealistic morphology -- Franz Schwanitz>: as a : classification (as of archeological remains or bacterial strains) based on COMPARATIVE STUDY of types b : COMPARATIVE STUDY of languages or aspects of languages as to their structures rather than their historical relations etc.

: Inclined to agree (whilst agreeing with C over the trickiness of this word). We tend to reject apparent "calcos", but I think it works here.

thank you, Neilmac. I disagree about typology=type (you might want to see the note I posted above). I know: jargon, but it has its place and purpose among the writers I translate.

Aunque tengo que reconocer, que "typology" también me suena bien.
