Probably just "cataloguing" would work for both terms. Spanish does tend to be rather loquacious, often using 2 words where 1 would do perfectly well.

a model of excellence and prestige/distinction
I think the meaning here is that the book is viewed as a model or paragon among books of its kind (dechado) and it is also an important or unusual book (señalamiento). I may be way out of line but from the context it doesn't seem to be referring to cataloguing proceedures :-). I have to admit the original Spanish is written in a rather "florid" style, you may or may not wish to keep it. Good luck. :-)
