The LCV (lowest credible value )of K was assumed to be Ko, while Kp (from Equation 5) is considered to be the HCV (highest credible value) of K. Thus, σ(K) = (Kp - Ko)/6, while the mean of K was conservatively assumed to be the average of Kp and Ko. The variation with depth of the estimated Ko and Kp values, as well as the µ and µ±σ of K, is shown on Figure 6. The Ko estimate is based on the relation between Ko and qc and OCR proposed by Mayne (1992), which was given as Equation (2) in Golder (2002b), with an upper limit defined by the Rankine passive earth pressure coefficient (i.e. Ko ≤ (1+sinφ)/(1-sinφ) ). Thus, the Ko profile on Figure 6 is based on the mean qc from Figure 3 along with OCR ≈ (σ’vo+270 kPa)/σ’vo and the best estimate of the variation in φ with depth given in Table 2. The Kp estimate was generated from Equation 5 using the φ estimates from Table 2 and the best estimate of δskirt = 26°.
