Portuguese term
lombos de peixe
Portuguese to English
Other
Cooking / Culinary
This is one of the ingredients in a Portuguese recipe:
"2 lombos de peixe (pescada, cherne, etc)"
Are they just fish fillets or a more specific cut like 'butterfly fillets' or something?

fish steaks
It is another option. Usually, in Portugal, fillets are thinner, and "lombos" (steaks) are taller, such as tuna or a cod steak.

"postas de peixe" are pinboned (you just cut the fish into thick slices", "lombos" do not have any bones (it is like a fillet, but thicker)

Note from asker:
Hi Catarina. I wondered about this, but I'd already used 'fish stakes' for 'postas de peixe'. Are they the same thing then? |

fish fillets
i.e. not cut across the bone.
"Fillets" would also work.
