Thank you jthink ~ you are right, yet (US) coeducational institutions usually use alumni for graduates of both sexes; I don't know if this is global, or just US

agree John Alphonse (X) : Wouldn't it be alumnus in the singular, Demi, or have we abandoned that in US English as well? Lol! Yes, one can't go wrong with 'alum' I suppose! Works for me! Thanks, Demi.

Thank you John; unfortunately, 'alum' seems to be the norm for a headline: "In a new autobiography from University of Oregon alum and ..." saving characters, or lazy? : )
agree Peter Skipp : "alumnum" is the correct singular form, I believe

Thank you Peter; alum is used as an abbreviation for alumni, (US) coeducational institutions usually use alumni for graduates of both sexes, and alumni in the singular, ref above. Lazy US English perhaps! : )

memorable alumnus (due to what he left/did)

I guess alum = alumnus (as Geoff was male). Track may have to do with leaving something memorable.
