Japanese term

適用範囲

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Science (general) Spec doc
適用範囲 この規格は、体積計に受け入れられた液体(受用)又は....
The document simply wanted to list the items that is applicable for this standards. I ran the word using translator, and it came back as "Coverage". Now, I don't feel that it is a right word to use in this case. Can I use the phrase "Scope of application" instead? Would appreciate your opinions. Thanks

Scope

For coverage, Longman advanced Amerivan dictionary says
1.the way in which a subject or event is reported on television or radio, or in newspapers
2.the amount of protection given to you by an insurance agreement
So, I agree with you as this word is not suitable in this case.

I think a suitable word is scope.
The word application is not required because scope contains the meaning of application.
Refer to the definition of the dictionary above, the range of things that a suject, activity, book etc. deals with.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Angel Yamada (X) : The text is about a standard/norm to be applied. In this case, "適用範囲" seems to be separated from the rest of the sentence (as a paragraph title, and there sholud be a ":"). And generally is expressed with the word "application".

agree Nobuo Kameyama : It is apparent that ":" is omitted between "適用範囲" and "この規格" and I agree with summereye-san that "scope" is for the best. I usually translate "適用範囲"simply as "Scope" in those cases.

Range of Applications

There are several ways to translate this, but I like this for something within a document. However, if it is a patent, "scope of applications" is probably best.
