français term

car

français vers anglais Autre Général / conversation / salutations / correspondance
influence l’organisation car gestion de son absence

These are slides on e-training for companies; the previous text talks about developing training practices to combine time constraints and then the above is in parens.

I thought of 'car' as because or 'for' but it does not quite make sense in this context... influence organization by management of its absence? It surely is not meant to be used as 'bus'?

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): writeaway, Angeliki Papadopoulou

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Silvia Brandon-Pérez (asker) Feb 13, 2008:
Thank you all. I realized after translating two other slides that it had to be 'because of' but only because here 'absence' refers to employee absences... which is something that would happen if employees were taking in-class training versus e-learning, which can be taken at your work station!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "It is really the only thing that makes sense in this context! Thanks a bunch!"

"as"

Whole context would help, but you have to understand it as a phrase such as "car il y a". In a "note-taking style", this usage is not so uncommon (though ugly).

agree Melissa McMahon : agree, or ellipsis for "car c'est"
