Γιατί "Court of Misdemeanors" [not for grading]
Το ελληνικό πταισματοδικείο είναι ποινικό δικαστήριο. Το ειρηνοδικείο είναι πολιτικό δικαστήριο.
Ο νόμος λέει:

Κάθε ειρηνοδικείο είναι ταυτόχρονα και πταισματοδικείο, με την προϋπόθεση ότι στην ίδια περιφέρεια δεν υπάρχει ειδικό πταισματοδικείο.
Το ειρηνοδικείο μεταφράζεται magistrate's court (από τον ειρηνοδίκη) και το πταισματοδικείο court of misdemeanors (από το πταίσμα). Έτσι επιτυγχάνουμε μεταφραστική αντιστοιχία.
Στην Αγγλία δεν έχουμε Court of Misdemeanours αλλά δεν μπορούμε να ισοπεδώσουμε το πταισματοδικείο διότι στην Αγγλία το magistrate's court κάνει και τις δυο δουλειές.
