English term

a thatched shack

English to Spanish Other Business/Commerce (general) General Acknowledgement Letter
I have heard the term: bohío for a thatched roof house, also, I have "una choza con techo de paja ", but I'm not sure if there is a better way to convey this concept.... Any other ideas out there????

Context:

For instance, in (XXXX country) today, up to 40,000 people are working under slave-like conditions. One of them, a 27-year-old named José, was enticed to work on soybean farms in (XXXX place). Lack of jobs forces many young (XXX nationality), like José, to accept work that will take them far from home, working for minimal wages.

On reaching the farm, José found the “lodging” he was promised — *******a thatched shack******* shared by 20 others, with no toilets, no bedding, dirty water and only a hammock to sleep in after a 17-hour workday.

José was required to pay for his stay, food and equipment. This put him in debt immediately. With no money to pay off his debt or return home, José got trapped in a cycle of debt that could never be paid off.

Discussion

Robert Copeland (asker) Dec 3, 2007:
Noni,
It's just a general acknowledgment letter from Catholic Relief Services intended to be used in multiple countries (I assume)...basically for anyone who provides money or donations to the organization, it appears that they will receive this letter after their donation.... For example it starts out with Thank you for your generous gift to Catholic Relief Services. Your gift allows CRS to continue our mission to serve God's most vulnerable children overseas. Because of compassionate donors like you, we can respond rapidly and effectively in times of emergency....
Noni Gilbert Riley Dec 3, 2007:
Where are we Robert? Even in Spain, the terminology for this kind of roof and "accommodation" can vary quite a lot....

choza con techo de paja

I think that your proposal is right. But you could also use "cabaña" instead of "choza".
