tapping the side of his nose

Hi. This is part of a British novel. It's the protagonist's birthday and his parents give him a much more expensive gift than he expected. The context is as follows:
'Is that the one you wanted?' he asked.
I nodded. I was speechless. It was a camcorder. A Sony Digicam. The latest model. Way beyond Mum and Dad's budget. 'But Dad ... you can't ...'
'Can and did,' said Dad, ***tapping the side of his nose***. 'No worries, Cousin Ed got it for me. Special deal for family. So don't you go thinking about the cost or anything. It's your sixteenth birthday and we wanted you to have what you wanted.'
What attitude does tapping the side of your nose convey? How would you say this in Spanish?
Thanks in advance!

Busca "tap the side of your nose" en Google y verás ejemplos con contexto.
Suerte y :O) :O)

Saludos!

Me pregunto si tiene que ver con Instant Meditation and the tapping points.

Tapas Acupressure Technique
Another popular method was developed by California acupuncturist, Tapas Fleming, and is called the Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT). In this simple but subtle approach, the target problem is kept in mind whilst the client holds a particular pose, with two fingers on the bladder meridian either side of the nose, another finger on the ‘third eye’ chakra on the forehead, and the other hand on the back of the skull. A series of meditative steps can then be followed, often resulting in a rapid and deep resolution of the problem. Tapas Fleming explains that when a person has been traumatised, he or she may become identified with the trauma and fixed in a particular point of view that prevents recovery. Her method allows a gentle shift of view, allowing a natural healing then to occur more or less instantly.

con un gesto de confidencialidad
Alvaro's comments make it quite clear. I don't think it's a particularly good idea even to describe the gesture, since it is so culturally specific. I'd also been thinking about complicidad, like José.

Saludos.

diciéndome muy disimuladamente
I think they are referring to the way you put your hand over the side of your nose when what you really want is cover your mouth so that noone else hears what's being said between two people, which matches "tapping the side of his nose" or that type of gesture.
I would not translate it literally. It has nothing to do with tapping your nose. It's more like somewhat covering your mouth, but it might be an English expression.

It could also be a signal between father and son, whereas the son would know not to question the gift any further. In that case, another translation such as "tocándose la naríz disimuladamente" would also apply.
