quote from the artist
Hi guys, I've got another translation from an art exhibit. I'm translating a text that will be printed and posted on a wall at the museum. It begins with a quote from the artist:
"A lifetime of breathless endeavor to be the thing and do the thing of his being --so easy to travel along with claques and crowds, voicing vociferously the great discoveries of each-- how ineffably difficult, voicing the soul of one man-- alone to himself and--then to whoever else hears... So do I live and work."
Context: I think this painter is talking about his struggle to be original, instead of following the trends of his time like everyone else. One thing that I find odd is that he starts speaking of himself on the third person ("do the thing of his being") and at the end, he goes back to first person. I don't understand that. I need a translation that conveys the meaning of the quote. I've got an idea, but I don't want to "contaminate" your suggestions. Thanks to all in advance!

I think that's how it would go

: why can't all the other answers be as delightfully simple (and accurate) as this one?

ser fiel a sí mismo
(en el ser y en el hacer).
Note from asker:
Gracias. |
