German term
wissenschaftliche Studie
German to English
Social Sciences
Government / Politics
studies/surveys/opinion polls
A political lobbying group is carrying out lots of studies, polls and surveys about the economy, education, employment etc. and is at pains to stress that these are "wissenschaftlich". Is there an alternative to "scientific" in connection with a study/poll etc.? Empirical? I am sure they just mean that these are studies based on sound research principles by authoritative research institutes. Scientific study doesn't sound quite right somehow.

objective studies/research
...is one more option. I think you could basically use any or all of the suggestions here, as well as your own "empirical" research/studies.

Comment: "Yes, I think objective/analytical/authoritative is what I am looking for. As this organisation has been accused of political bias it is at pains to stress that its studies are impartial."

analytical
though I personally have nothing against the term *scientific study*, the term analytical study/poll is also used in this connection.

scholarly study
This is an acceptable alternative, often used in academic works. 'Scientific' often has a much narrow focus.

: i think that would be the closest alternative to 'scientific' (although 'empirical' also seems like a good choice)

: 'research' is a non-countable noun; 'researches' would not be used by an educated native English speaker.\\Quite to my surprise, you're right.

I got your message and didn't leave it unnoticed :) It reminded me of the 1st answer in http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1985414 Thanks for your opinion, Anrdrew, but the context was revealed by the asker only after grading :)

authoritative research studies
The term 'wissenschaftlich' as in 'academic' or scientific does not need to be translated if they just want to stress that the research is scientifically based or grounded on valid scientific methodology. Or if you want to be more thourough I would say 'grounded/based on scientific methodology'.

It is based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning, the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.
