This is normally translated as flywheel, but I'm not sure this applies here.
From the description of an NBC mask.
"Il volantino 2 è posizionato all’interno del bocchello, in prossimità del suo fondo, mentre il piattello 4 è sottostante alla membrana ed il seggio di inspirazione 3 è a battuta con il fondo del bocchello stesso."
From the diagram and description, the "volantino" seems to be made of rubber, is flexible and cannot be adjusted by the user. It appears to be a rubber foil which acts as a valve, letting air flow in one direction or the other.
Any suggestions?
