Hi sktrans. Yes, that is the right sort of idea - we used contour in there somewhere in the context too. I gave the client some suggestions but they are likely to go with a note saying we really don't know exactly what it means here, and say we relate it to bleeding and the vertical lines on the lips.

The probable answer My text already has 'tenue' for hold or staying power, so thanks for that effort which is definitely along the right lines, but 'griffe' is something else. It looks like it is the opposite of bleeding or feathering in terms of the lipstick staying on the lips themselves.

I think this is what you're looking for - ie, its staying power.

"Hold" can be both a noun (as here) or a verb (although I'm not sure about the relevance of the 2nd ref):

What about texture? and this is how I came to it:
griffe=(Coll-Rob)-stamp-then in my thesaurus-stamp-feel-hey presto=texture!
