for Jeffrey: I agree. My point was that the outcome needs to be formalized because many options are possible. No doubt that the record goes to decision makers, they may eventually make an offer which the applicant may choose to accept. Actual hiring may also depend on checks and clearances, etc.

What I'm guessing is that recruitment and hiring are two different things - that the recruiter sets the interviews, and tabulates the results in terms of the criteria established for each position - and then gives all this information in easily digested form to the person who actually makes the decision on who gets hired.
The "outcome" of an interview naturally appears to us to be hired/not hired. But there would be no reason to "formalize" that; you'd just record it. "Formalize" to me makes more sense if there are two stages in the process, and the recruiter/interviewer handles one and only prepares the other.

: more precisely, the outcome is "rejected/put on hold/job offered/considered for another position", etc. hired comes much later, after the applicant accepts the job, at least

If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that the result of the interview is information, which someone else will decide about. And doesn't "accept" come after "offered"? Then hired.

There is no reason why one would need to deviate to far from the French.
I believe that "formalize the results of an interview" works well in English. In fact, there is not a better way to translate it.
formalize = to adhere to a formal standard (recording an interview document, in this case)
