Discussion

paolamonaco (asker) Jun 6, 2006:
Grazie Giles.
Giles Watson Jun 6, 2006:
We've had this before ("vara"):

On that occasion, the asker decided to use "Vara" as a proper noun. You could do the same with "Bara" or use a descriptive term ("platform" or "bier", not "reliquary").

feretory or bier

casket-like reliquary/coffin

http://www.firebirdvideos.com/articles/whyrelics.htm
Customarily, after a holy person has been glorified as a saint, either locally or universally, the relics of the saint are placed in a large coffin or casket-like reliquary, which sometimes can be quite ornate, and carried in a grand procession to a new place of honor, often in the main cathedral, that is readily accessible to people to venerate the saint's relics. (This "transferring of relics" is commonly translated in English as the "translation of the relics.")
