Subject to being confirmed in your position

English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s) contract
5. SICK LEAVE
Subject to being confirmed in your position and upon production of a medical certificate from our Company-appointed clinic or from a Government polyclinic or Government hospital:
(a) you are eligible for paid sick leave not exceeding fourteen days in each calendar year, or
(b) the employee shall be allowed paid sick leave not exceeding sixty days in each calendar year if hospitalization is necessary.

What does 'Subject to being confirmed in your position' mean?

Provided that your position in the company (your job) has been confirmed....

It may be that these sick benefits do not go into effect until the employee's tenure of the position (the job) has been established (confirmed) by successfully completing a trial period of employment.

Aside from the wording being just too grotesque, I do not believe that the clause refers to confirmation of the employee's illness because that would make the second clause redundant.

The employee who is sick must inform the employer and also...

produce (or send) a medical certificate.

If the employee does not inform the employer and does not send a mediacal certificate then sick leave will not be paid for by the company.

Subject to in this case is a clause in the employment contract and the above explains what it means exactly.

verfication of employment

yes, I agree with statement that the employee has to notify the employer if he/she is sick. However, this looks to be from an employee manual, and for accounting to be able to pay the wages,it is stated that the persons position has to actually be verified before said sick leave will be paid.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kim Metzger : I don't know if "verified" is the right word. Approved would be closer.

once you become a permanent employee

A lot of companies have a trial period for new employees and benefits are not offered until they become permanent.
